Anne Weying was a successful lawyer, and Eddie Brock’s ex-wife. In her first appearance, she is a brunette with glasses. In later appearances, she loses the glasses and goes blonde. Weying assisted Spider-Man by sharing some of Eddie’s history. She later followed Spider-Man to the amusement park where Venom had Peter Parker’s (fake) parents. She confronted her insane ex-husband, and managed to convince Eddie to give up this vendetta. Later, Sin-Eater shot Anne to which the Venom symbiote temporarily bonded with her to save her life.She-Venom then lashed out against the men who had hurt her with such violence that Eddie was afraid for her and compelled the Venom symbiote back. Anne retched upon seeing the pile of bodies she had left behind, claiming that the Venom symbiote had made her kill her victims, but Eddie told her that the Venom symbiote wouldn’t force its host to do something they did not want to.

Weying is later incarcerated by the police on a false charge (unrelated to Anne’s previous rampage) in order to trap Venom. Anne used her one phone call to warn Eddie and to promise not to come. Eddie agreed not to rescue her himself, and instead sent the Venom symbiote through the phone lines to her. After the Venom symbiote bonded with her, She-Venom was able to break herself out of prison, heading to the amusement park where she and Spider-Man had confronted Venom, only to intercept a raid on a gang of drug dealers.During the fight, Eddie was badly injured by a flamethrower, prompting Anne to release the Venom symbiote to heal him, but also to leave Eddie in disgust at his dependence on the Venom symbiote.Still reeling from the experience of bonding with the Venom symbiote months earlier and unable to deal with Eddie’s return into her life, coupled with her ex-husband’s transformation directly in front of her as Venom ran off to kill Spider-Man, sent her over the edge. Weying commits suicide after spotting Spider-Man webslinging in an older black costume at a time when the regular red and blue suit had been stolen. She leapt from her high rise apartment to her death. Her death is later confirmed when her tombstone is shownIn a flashback, it is revealed that she got pregnant with Eddie’s child after bonding to Venom. After giving birth to their son Dylan, she left him in the care of Carl Brock, with the promise that she would return eventually. She instead committed suicide, after which Carl raised Dylan. It is later established that Anne was already pregnant with Eddie’s child when she last bonded with the Venom symbiote, with the codex that was left inside Anne by Venom (apparently) being absorbed by the fetus. No one was prepared.

No one could stop him. He destroyed the world, Eddie… My son killed the world.

—Venom (Anne Weying)
Conceived by She-Venom, Dylan Brock was born as a human-symbiote hybrid. Dylan was originally a kind and gentle child, but everything changed for the worst when he abruptly fell under the sway of the dark god Knull. Tearing off a piece of his mother’s symbiote, Dylan used his powers to grow it into his own symbiote and adopted the alias CodexDylan was originally described by his mother as a kind child, but after falling under the sway of Knull he became fanatically devoted to the dark god. Mercilessly crushing all who opposed him, Dylan became an arrogant and domineering tyrant, cruel towards his followers and prone to fits of anger. However, he possessed a comical side, as he was capable of being caught off-guard; and was melancholic regarding the loss of his family, lamenting that he couldn’t be with them. After his connection to Knull was severed, Dylan lost his memories of what he had done as Codex and returned to his original personality before falling into a coma.

Powers

Human/Symbiote Hybrid Physiology: Conceived by a piece of the Venom symbiote incarnated into human form using Anne Weying, Dylan possesses powers similar to those of his counterpart from Earth-616.Unlike the Dylan Brock of Earth-616, however, Codex is able to bond to symbiotes. Much like the Cletus Kasady of Earth-616, Dylan’s connection to Knull gave him godlike powers amplified by his Hive, though it caused him to undergo a monstrous metamorphosis – giving him fangs, claws, white hair, and pale skin resembling Knull’s. After Knull’s hold over Codex was broken, Dylan returned to his human self. Years later, the Symbiote Carnage joined him, restoring his powers for the benefit of the symbiote.

  • Symbiote Domination: Dylan is the ruler of the Hive, and has subjugated at least the United States of America under his dominion; with only a small number of humans remaining free of his influence. Symbiotes connected to Dylan’s hive-mind become more powerful, and attain the ability to manifest not only draconic wings but transform their arms into powerful energy cannons.
  • Superhuman Strength: Codex seemed to possess superhuman strength.
  • Superhuman Durability: Codex seemed to possess superhuman durability.

Equipment

Codex’s Armor: Codex is clad in a suit of black-and-red powered armor with a full-face mask, stylized red dragon emblem on its chest, chains attached to his belt, and a cloak.

Does Venom like Anne?

Venom then bonds with Anne Weying and together they go rescue Eddie as She-Venom. … Maybe en route to saving Eddie, Anne was able to feed Venom to keep him satisfied while they were together. Or maybe, Venom didn’t brutalize his temporary host because admitted he “likes” Anne.

    • Ability to tap into people’s minds and bring out their inner darkness (fear, anger, hate) making them act violent

Shriek is a dangerous and criminally insane villainess with the ability to manipulate sound. During the events of Maximum Carnage, she allied herself with Carnage and several other super-villains who went about New York on a killing spree.

Shriek’s origins and real name were, at first, uncertain. She was named Sandra Deel in her earliest appearances, but named Frances Louise Barrison. She was born Frances Louise Barrison, but used Sandra Deel as an alias .During her childhood, Frances was abused by her mother for being overweight, driving her to drugs and leading to her later fixation on becoming a mother herself. She became a drug dealer, which exposed her to situations that ultimately damaged her sanity; namely, being shot in the head by a police officer, and being put in Cloak’s Darkforce Dimension, which awakened Shriek’s latent mutant abilities.

During Carnage’s violent escape from the Ravencroft mental institution, he came across Shriek, who was also incarcerated and wished to join him. He freed her, and the pair embarked on a killing spree. They attracted the company of several other homicidal supervillains (Demogoblin, Doppelganger, and Carrion), and formed a “family,” with Carnage and Shriek as the “parents” and the others as their “sons”. (Although it is clearly obvious that Shriek had love for Carnage, it is uncertain whether he felt the same for her; it is implied many times that he did.) Shriek also used her mental powers to increase the chaos by causing a number of New Yorkers to violently turn on one another, although the heroes were able to calm the people down before they did anything too serious, such as killing their own children. The killers fought a number of heroes, led by Spider-Man, but succumbed to in-fighting. Carnage slew the Doppelganger and left the others to their defeat and capture, although he was subsequently contained by the Avengers after a clash with Spider-Man, Venom and Black Cat.

In the aftermath, Shriek is returned to Ravencroft, but escapes her cell by short-circuiting her power dampening unit. Shriek frees fellow inmates Gale, Webber, Pyromania, and Mayhem, and together they try to break out of the facility, opposed by Spider-Man and John Jameson. While distracted by Spider-Man, Shriek is knocked out with a tranquilizer gun by Jameson.

When Dr. Ashley Kafka brings Malcolm McBride near Shriek’s cell, Shriek recognizes Malcolm as her “son” Carrion, breaks out of her room, and escapes from Ravencroft with Malcolm. Agitated by Malcolm’s refusal to acknowledge her as his mother, Shriek becomes violent towards him, and uses her powers to turn him back into Carrion after an encounter with Spider-Man, who Shriek plans on making her new “husband” after sensing a growing darkness within him. In an attempt to make Carrion fully embrace her as his mother, Shriek takes him to Beatrice McBride, the biological mother of Malcolm, with the intent of having Carrion murder the woman. The duo are tracked by Spider-Man, and in the ensuing brawl, Shriek abandons her plans to convert Spider-Man to her side, and forces Carrion to choose between her and Beatrice. The distraught Carrion instead begins to commit suicide with his own powers, which Beatrice tries to stop, stating, “Do you think my life matters? Do you think I wouldn’t sacrifice myself a thousand times over to save my child?” when Shriek tells her that she will be killed by contact with Carrion. Touched, Shriek absorbs the Carrion virus, incapacitating herself, and turning Carrion back into Malcolm.

Shriek is readmitted to Ravencroft, where the dormant Carrion virus (which she had been treating like an unborn child) is extracted from her by the Jackal. Later, Shriek is brought on as a juror in Judas Traveller’s mock trial of Spider-Man in the basement of Ravencroft. Shriek and the other members of the jury deem Spider-Man guilty of ruining lives and creating supervillains, but before they can execute their sentence of death they are returned to their cells and have their memories altered by Traveller.

After Carnage is returned to Earth by Hall Industries, the company purchases Ravencroft with the intention of using Shriek (who had been responding well to the treatment being administered to her by Doctor Tanis Nieves) as a power source for the Carnage symbiote, which had been separated from Cletus Kasady. Shriek is brought to Hall Industries, where exposure to the Carnage symbiote, coupled with her witnessing guards beating Doppelganger (who had been attempting to rescue her) causes her to snap, and return to homicidal mania. After Cletus reunites with his symbiote, Shriek and Doppelganger aid him in causing chaos throughout New York City, with Shriek gaining additional powers from another symbiote (which gives her a third arm, and covers half of her face) that Carnage’s had spawned. Growing fearful of Shriek, the symbiote leaves her in favor of Nieves, its initial host, to create Scorn, who forces Shriek to use her powers to weaken Carnage, allowing Spider-Man and Iron Man to defeat him. In the aftermath, Shriek is shown to be in a coma, Scorn having done some unspecified damage to her brain.

Shriek regains consciousness, and is recruited by Caroline le Fay to battle the Fearless Defenders as a member of the new Doom Maidens. After the Doom Maidens are disbanded, Shriek reunites with Carnage, and saves him from Deadpool in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The two killers flee pursued by Deadpool, who crashes their car with a combine harvester, severely injuring Shriek, and enraging Carnage. Carnage flings Deadpool away, and escapes to the base of the Mercury Team (who he kills) with the unconscious Shriek. Carnage, troubled by Deadpool making him question his nihilistic beliefs, then has Shriek help him break into a psychiatric hospital, where they try to force the patients and staff to answer Carnage’s questions about being controlled by higher powers, a concept which disgusts Carnage. Deadpool, who has bonded to the Mercury Team’s symbiotes, uses his new shapeshifting abilities to disorient Shriek, causing her to run off. After a skirmish with Carnage, Deadpool captures Shriek, uses his symbiotes to disguise her as himself, and tricks the already distraught Carnage into nearly killing her, causing Carnage (who believes his attacking Shriek was “foreshadowed” by the higher powers) to suffer a mental breakdown. Shriek is hospitalized, and Carnage willingly allows himself to be arrested.

Being a mutant and following exposure to Cloak’s Dimension, Shriek has the ability to manipulate sound in a number of elaborate ways. She can harness it for destructive concussive force or use it to disorient and agitate her enemies. She can apparently hypersonically induce intense emotion in those around her (generating fear, hate, or despair). She also has moderate powers of levitation that she can use to make herself fly and possibly some low level of psionic ability.

She is able to sense the darkest side to a person’s psyche so that she can use her powers to specifically manipulate that person’s emotions. Her scarred left eye is also prone to glow whenever she uses her powers. Why only that eye glows is uncertain.

Delaney portrays young Patrick MulliganTOXIN3.jpg

Much like their “father” Venom, Carnage produced an offspring: a third symbiote. Carnage felt only dislike and hatred towards his new spawn, even before he “gave birth” to it, both fearing that it could become much stronger than himself, and being generally disgusted at the thought of giving birth (reflecting the attitudes of Carnage’s host, Cletus Kasady). At the same time, Carnage’s rival and “father” Venom became aware that Carnage was “pregnant” and sought out Carnage to talk about this new symbiote. Carnage had resolved to kill his spawn as soon as it was born. Venom was doing his best to protect the new symbiote, with the intention of raising it to become his new partner. Venom was also concerned that, as the 1,000th symbiote of their line, the new symbiote could potentially become psychotic and violent because of genetic breakdown

Patrick Mulligan was one of New York City’s finest cops, yet troubled with various personal problems. His stressful job, along with the strain of his new family (his wife, Gina, was pregnant with their first son, Edward) were taking their toll. One night while on duty, he came across the site where Carnage was giving birth to the new symbiote. Carnage, needing a host to hide the symbiote to keep it from Venom, bonded it to Mulligan. Carnage resolved to kill both Mulligan and the symbiote since they were not yet strong enough to manifest a super-powered costume like the Venom and Carnage symbiotes. Venom still hoped to use this new symbiote as a partner, and fought Carnage to a standstill to protect Mulligan and the symbiote, whom he christened Toxin, after himself.

At first, Mulligan didn’t realize what had happened to him. Before long, the Toxin symbiote had matured enough to gain both conscious thought and the strength to form a symbiote costume on Mulligan’s body. After Carnage attacked Gina and Edward at their home, Mulligan realized the symbiote was a danger to both himself and his family. During a subsequent confrontation between Venom, Carnage, and Toxin, Venom realized Mulligan was dedicated to a life of virtue, or as close as he could come under the symbiote’s influence. When it became clear that Toxin was easily as strong as either of his predecessors, and was still growing, Venom and Carnage formed a temporary pact to destroy him.

Toxin symbiote is removed from Patrick Mulligan through murderous means. Blackheart, the son of the demonic Mephisto, kills Patrick Mulligan and places his symbiote in an underground lab beneath his Devil’s Den front operation casino in Las Vegas. Upon discovering that a symbiote was up for grabs, Spider-Man villain Jack O’Lantern made a bid to retrieve it, blackmailing Flash Thompson, a.k.a. Agent Venom into retrieving it for him.

As Toxin

Toxin, being the 1,000th symbiote born in Venom’s line, has vastly increased attributes in comparison to his “parents”, and will grow stronger as he ages.

Toxin possessed the special abilities of his two symbiote predecessors: he can stick to walls (which originally came from when Spider-Man was a host of the Venom symbiote), can change his identity to that of a completely different person, and also has unlimited webbing. With Patrick Mulligan as the host, the suit is red from the abdomen up and black from the abdomen down. With Eddie Brock as the host, it resembles a combination of Venom and Carnage but with the entire body red—light on the chest, and dark on the arms and lower body. Toxin can also blend in with his surroundings and become undetectable, an ability he gained from his grandfather, and he can form solid weapons from his limbs, an ability first seen in his father. Toxin also seems to have some sort of quick-healing ability like his predecessors, as his wounds from his first battle with Razor Fist healed remarkably quickly. Unlike the others, Toxin can track anyone—not just other symbiotes or symbiote host—within the entire city of New York and possibly farther, as long as he has something to begin from.

Unlike many of the other symbiotes, Toxin did not try to take over the mind of his human host. Instead, the symbiote actually thinks and voices its opinions to the human host (as evidenced in Toxin’s “Cut to the Chase” storyline). The symbiote usually speaks when the host is in his “human form”, and acts very immature and childlike because of its nascent existence, once refusing to aid Pat in battle until he apologized for an earlier argument. In addition, he seems to have a stronger resistance to sonics and intense heat compared to Carnage, though this does not mean that Toxin is more resistant to violent urges: it can get carried away with violence and fighting crime, even if it’s a petty crime. When he’s not angry or fighting, Toxin is slim and smooth-lined, although still well muscled, closely resembling Carnage or Spider-Man in his symbiote costume. When he becomes upset or aggressive, he grows into his much bigger and stronger form (like Venom), with vicious fangs and long curving claws.

The symbiote recently developed a venomous bite after bonding to Eddie Brock.

  • Superhuman Strength: Toxin is the strongest symbiote seen yet. He is stronger than Venom and Carnage combined, and was able to defeat Wrecker and Piledriver simultaneously with no apparent difficulty.
  • Superhuman Durability: Toxin is much more durable than the symbiotes before him. He is able to withstand machine gun fire, and even take blows from Wrecker, Carnage, and Spider-Man without apparent harm.
  • Camouflage: Toxin is able to alter his form to look like anyone.
  • Wall-Crawling: Toxin can stick to any surface, even slick ones.
  • Webbing: Like his fellow symbiotes, Toxin has virtually unlimited webbing, which takes the appearance of thick red and blue tendrils.
  • Regenerative Healing Factor: Toxin heals much quicker than normal. He was fully healed from a cut only a short time after his battle with Razor Fist.
  • Woody Harrelson as Cletus Kasady / Carnage:A psychotic serial killer who becomes the host of Venom’s spawn, Carnage. While in prison, Kasady refuses to talk with anyone besides Brock, who he considers to be a kindred spirit.
  • Jack Bandeira portrays young CletusIn Next Week's Web of Venom: Carnage Born #1, Hell is Children in CagesCletus Kasady had a troubled and tortuous childhood of being beat and molested by his father, hated by his mother who loved her dog more than him, killing his grandmother by pushing her down a flight of stairs, and torturing his mother’s dog who afterwards tries to kill him and is apparently beaten to death by his father, who receives no defense from Kasady during his trial. Cletus Kasady went to a camp where he was causing mayhem by putting smoke bombs in the girls cabin. Kasady was hiding but was noticed by Billy Bentine, which later took the blame which caught Kasady completely by surprise. As an orphan, Kasady is sent to the St. Estes Home for Boys, where his antisocial behavior makes him the target of abuse from both the other orphans and the staff. Kasady vindicates himself by murdering the disciplinary administrator and burning down the orphanage. When Kasady goes to school he gets a girl friend who later leaves him when he drops out of school. Kasady later becomes a serial killer, to show everyone that laws are just words, and you can do anything you want up to and including murder if you just have the guts.He is captured and sent to Ryker’s Island prison where he shares a cell with Eddie Brock, who had lost his alien symbiote. Brock’s symbiote soon returns and bonds with him again, and unwittingly leaves behind the symbiote’s offspring behind. This Venom offspring, later named Carnage, gets into a cut on Kasady, thus bonding with his blood and transforming him into Carnage (also causing his symbiote to turn red). He escapes prison, and begins a series of murders, and at the scene of each crime, writes “Carnage Rules” on the walls with his own blood .Cletus Kasady was diagnosed with stomach cancer, the Carnage symbiote left him and briefly bonded to the Silver Surfer. It took the combined might of Spider-Man, the Avengers and Silver Surfer’s conscience to separate Carnage from the Surfer. The symbiote returned to Cletus soon after.

Things You Didn’t Know About Cletus Kasady ‘s Past

Cletus Was Taken Care Of By His Abusive Grandmother

His mother was purportedly a paranoid schizophrenic at the Raven-croft Institution, who died shortly after giving birth to him. That led him to come into the care of his grandmother, a woman who was anything but kind to him. She was abusive, treating Cletus as a burden that she wanted nothing to do with.

Cletus Killed His Grandmother

After all of the abuse from his grandmother, Cletus was bound to hit a breaking point. That day came when Cletus was in the ripe old age of six. He shattered her figurines along the stairs, drawing her into his trap, getting her to gape at their broken forms long enough for Cletus to come behind her.

He shoved with all his might, seeing her tumble down the stairs to her death, all while wondering if she could fly like Mary Poppins

Cletus Tortured His Foster Parent’s Dog, Fifi

His first true sign of psychopathy was when he tortured his foster parent’s dog, Fifi

Louise, the foster mother, caught Cletus, and was distraught by what she saw. Fifi was a dog she cared for as if it were a child.

He Witnessed His Father Killing His Mother

Roscoe, his father, killed Louise is murky at best. There are two separate stories of the incident. The first is that Louise was so distraught over her dog dying that she tried to kill Cletus. Roscoe stepped in to stop her, accidentally killing her in the process.

Cletus Was Bullied At The Orphanage

After losing both his foster parents, Cletus was transferred to St. Estes Home For Boys orphanage. Cletus began to shut himself off from everyone around him while there, displaying more and more anti-social behavior.

None of this was helped by the fact the other kids relentlessly teased him. It caused more and more hate to fester inside of Cletus, a hatred that would soon make itself known to not only the orphanage but to the world.

Cletus Burned St. Estes Home For Boys To The Ground

Cletus made the kids pay for making fun of him, right along with the staff that let it happen. He killed the disciplinary staff of the orphanage, pushed a girl in front of a bus, and eventually burned the entire place down to the ground

Cletus Was Sentenced To Over Eleven Life Sentences When He Was Finally Caught

Cletus, he’d already killed dozens of people, earning him eleven consecutive life sentences and no hope of ever escaping.

He showed no remorse for his actions, bragging about the people he’d killed and ascribing to a nihilistic philosophy that everyone can commit murder, if they only have the courage to do it. It shows how whacked his mind had become from all of the years of abuse, no longer caring about anything.

Eddie Brock & Cletus Met While In Prison

fter losing his symbiote in a battle with Spider-Man, Styx, and Stone, Eddie was sentenced to time in prison. While there, he just so happened to be roomed with Cletus Kasady. The two got along as well as they do when their symbiote takes over.

Eddie detested Cletus’ logic behind his killing, seeing himself as the better of the two. Cletus, meanwhile, found it laughable that Eddie thought his symbiote was going to come to save him.

Venom’s Rescue Of Eddie Led To The Creation Of Cletus

Eddie was proven right when Venom did indeed come to rescue him and at just the right time too. Cletus had grown fed up with Eddie’s mouth, preparing to shank him with a homemade shiv before the symbiote’s arrival.Venom was pregnant at the time, leaving behind a seed in the prison cell. That seed would latch onto Cletus, growing to become Carnage. It’s part of why Venom hates him so much, knowing that he was his creation.

First Two Kills He Had As Carnage Were A Prison Guard & Someone He Randomly Picked Out In A Phone Boo

The first of those people was a prison guard named Ramone, who he dragged through the bars of his cell. The second showed how psychotic Cletus was as he randomly selected someone out of a phonebook. Gunther Stein was the unfortunate soul who was suffocated by Cletus’s new powers.

Things You Didn’t Know About Cletus Kasady

He Has Died Several Times

  • When Cletus Kasady born, he was strangled to death with his own umbilical cord.
  • He was torn in two by the Sentry, the man with the power of a thousand exploding suns.He and the Carnage symbiote merged with the Klyntar’s natural predators, the Poisons. Cletus sided with the Poisons in their invasion of Earth, but their invasion failed.
  • Cletus was left in orbit after the fight and was incinerated while falling back to Earth. Whether it be his own or others’, death is forever a part of Cletus’ life.
  • Cletus And Carnage Have A Stronger Bond Than VenomCarnage and Cletus Kasady is that the two have a stronger bond than Venom and Eddie Brock. This is the reason that Carnage refers to itself as “I” instead of “we”, like Venom does. this bond gives Carnage more power than Venom could ever have. It’s also the reason that, even when Cletus’ body is seemingly destroyed, his sentience is retained in the Carnage symbiote elsewhere
  • He Loved Shriek Cletus Kasady and the countless bodies to his name, he has been in love before. Carnage and Cletus seem to take glee in killing living things and nothing more, but he has displayed affection for the woman known as Shriek, aka Frances Barisson.Carnage showed this most clearly when he attacks Deadpool for hurting Shriek in a car crash. Later, Deadpool obtains a symbiote and uses it to make Shriek resemble himself. Carnage accidentally wounds Shriek after thinking she is Deadpool, causing him to mentally spiral. This is how Deadpool was able to defeat Carnage in this encounter.
  • He Worships Two Gods
  • He Is Descended From One America’s First Serial KillerThe Kasady family first arrived in America with Cortland Kasady, a distant ancestor of Cletus. Cortland’s love, Molly Ravencroft, was kidnapped by an early cult devoted to Knull. Upon trying to rescue Molly, Cortland took on a symbiote of his own. He ended up killing his fellow colonists and being locked up on the future site of the Ravencroft Institute.Cortland later freed himself and killed Molly. He apparently later killed several more before dying on the future site of Ravencroft. However, Knull has since resurrected him, and he has become the undead-symbiote hybrid Plague.
  • Doverton, Colorado would be his new home. He used parts of his own symbiote to possess the entire town of Doverton. Eventually, the Avengers took notice of what was happening in Doverton and put a stop to Carnage. After Carnage died once again in the orbit of Earth, the Cult of Knull performed a ritual to resurrect Carnage in Doverton. Once again, he keeps coming back.
  • He’s Been A HeroCarnage got caught up in chaos, and the Red Onslaught wound up flipping his morality. This remade Carnage into a hero, and he returned to New York to help others as Your Friendly Neighborhood Carnage. He later returned to help undo the Red Onslaught’s damage and was seemingly killed by a gene bomb.
  • He’s Currently Dead  Venom killed him during Absolute Carnage when he removed the Grendel symbiote from the remains of Cletus Kasady.Later, the Carnage symbiote further beguiled Eddie Brock on the Island of Bones. Eddie had to go to some extremes to purge himself and the Venom symbiote of the Carnage Grendel symbiote
  • Agent Anti-Venom (Flash Thompson), former Agent Venom sidekick/current Scream Andi Benton, Toxin, and the Life Foundation Symbiotes.Carnage is still alive, somehow. There is little doubt that he will continue to kill and destroy across the Marvel Universe in this story.
